News was received here on Thursday that Mrs. Gerrit Vander Waa of Devil's Lake, N.D. passed away at Rochester, Minn., following an operation. Mrs. Vander Waa will be remembered by Alton people as Miss Josie Houwers.

Mr. Houwers of Sheboygan, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Ben Meylink of Monroe, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. J. Moeller of Doon, Mr. and Mrs. A. Moeller and Miss Dena Houwers of Carmel, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dokter of LeMars and Ben Vande Waa of Sioux Falls all were here Friday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Gerrit Vande Waa, who died at Rochester, Minn., from the effects of an operation.
