MRS. MARTIN KOOISTRA SR. LAID TO REST MONDAY--90 YEAR OLD LADY PASSED AWAY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST, AFTER BEING ILL MANY MONTHS

Mrs. Martin Kooistra, Sr. nee Anna Jellesma was born March 7, 1856 at Friesland, Netherland. After a long suffering she passed away on February 21, 1947 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 16 days.

On May 28, 1881 she was united in marriage to Martin Kooistra. Out of these bonds of Holy Marriage ten children were born, four of whom preceded her in death, the infant twins in the Netherlands, Simon, 22 years old in 1905 in Hull, Iowa and Nellie (Mrs. L.C. Van Duyn) in Rock Valley, Iowa. Her husband Martin Kooistra, Sr. passed away twelve years ago this coming June.

Left to mourn her loss are the remaining six children: John Kooistra of Rock Valley; Mrs. Etta Nickerk of Hull; Mrs. Effie De Boer of Rock Valley; Reverend Eilbert Kooistra of Oak Park, Illinois; Mrs. Cynthia Oostenink of Hull; Martin Kooistra Jr. of Hull and 33 grandchildren. 53 great-grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Kooistra came to this country in 1896 and lived in Sioux County all that time and the last 10 years around and in Hull, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Etta Niekerk and at 2:00 in the Christian Reformed Church. Reverend J. Hanenburg of Hull and Reverend J. Cupido of Hawarden conducted the services. The male quartet of the Christian Reformed Church sang two selections, “The Haven of Rest” and “Someday We’ll Understand.”
