L. Darlene Hartman, 83, died March 5, 2017 in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held on March 9 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester.

Darlene was born Sept. 7, 1933 in Sioux County to Floyd and Hila (Nelson) Strong. She married Edward Hartman on Nov. 6, 1953 in Hawarden. Together they farmed on several farms in the Alcester area and Darlene worked several jobs outside the home. Following Edward's passing in 1991, Darlene moved into Alcester and finished her working years at Custom Coils.

After her retirement, Darlene enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizen Center and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to feed and watch the antics of her squirrel, Fred, in front of her home.

She is survived by two sons, Broc (Cheryl) Hartman of Lennox and Steven (Carol) Hartman of Alcester; a sister, LaRae; a brother Roger; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Delores; and two brothers-in-law, Duane and John.
