Mrs. Lena “Lee” Roos, age 94, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Orange City Area Heath System.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, December 15, at 10:00am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Brian Keepers will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Friday, at 9:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with the family present from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, at the funeral home.

Lena Dorothy was born on January 7, 1923, at Orange City, the daughter of Dick Garret and Reka Lena (Visser) Muilenburg. She was raised in rural Orange City, where she attended a country school and the Northwestern Academy. She also graduated from the Northwestern Junior College and took additional college courses. She was a teacher at the Maurice and Sioux Center Elementary Schools. Later, she served as a study hall supervisor at the MOC – Floyd Valley High School in Orange City.

On June 7, 1949, she married Allen Roos in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City. He passed away on August 21, 1993, in Orange City, after more than 44 years of marriage.

In August of 2002, “Lee” moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community and in January of 2016, she transferred to the Prairie Ridge Care Center, both in Orange City.

Mrs. Roos was a former member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Orange City and a current member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where she participated in the ladies’ organizations and taught Sunday school classes. She volunteered at “Hands Around the World” in Orange City.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting afghans and baby blankets, playing card games, reading, and traveling.

Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Randall and Karen Roos, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Richard and Paula Roos, of Orange City; and Bradley and Patricia Roos, of Marshall, Minnesota; her daughter, Lynne De Jongh, of Sioux Center; twelve grandchildren, Jake (Jamie) Roos, Ben (Megan) Roos, Charlie (Cora) Roos, Tony Roos, Peter Roos; Greg (Julie) Roos, Leah (Nick) Herda; Belinda (Erik) Sheldon, Tyler (Taya) Roos, Tanner (Trina) Roos, Autumn (Reed) Achenbach; and Andrew De Jongh; a grandson-in-law, Rob (Kris) Mouw; 25 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Nola Roos, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Alberta Dorhout, of Lantana, Florida.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kent De Jongh; a granddaughter, Kimberly Roos Mouw; a brother and his wife, Ivan and Winifred Muilenburg, a sister and her husband, Marcine and C. Keith De Jong; three sisters-in-law, Emma Roos, Kathryn Roos, and Alta (Peter) Davis; and three brothers-in-law, Wilbur Roos, Wayne (Carmel) Roos, and John Roos.

Memorials may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City.
