Funeral services will be held for Walter C. Kooiman, 73, Tuesday, June 29 at 1:00 P.M. at the Porter Funeral Home and at 1:30 P.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend John Enghers will officiate and burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Mr. Kooiman died after a lingering illness in the Sioux Center Hospital Monday.

Mr. Kooiman married Dena Vugteveen February 14, 1916 in Rock Valley. They farmed for one year before-operating a general store in Lebanon. They moved to Rock Valley in 1920 where they owned and operated, a grocery store and later a bakery, and retired in 1959. They also owned stores in Inwood, Sioux Center, Hull, Hawarden, and Orange City. He operated a grocery store here some 44 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dena, three daughters, Elizabeth Kooiman, Mrs. Bert (Grace) Voerburg and Mrs. Marinus (Jennie) Maassen of Rock Valley; two sons, Herman, Clearwater, Florida , and Cornie, Forest City; 17 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Effie Rensenbrink, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mrs. Henry Mulder, Orange City and one brother, William, Emery, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pearl in 1931.
