Mrs. Elizabeth Konz, who died October 28th less than two weeks after her 90th birthday festivities was born at St. Donnatus in eastern Iowa October 17, 1867. She came to Alton vicinity at the age of seven with her pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas and Anna (Kettler) Koob.

She was married to Peter Konz at the “prairie church” southeast of Alton in 1883 and the couple became parents of 14 children. Mr. Konz died 36 years ago in 1921.

Ten children survive, as named in our last issue; a brother, Barney Koob of Granville, 66 grandchildren, 193 great-grandchildren, of whom many were present at the funeral.

Funeral Requiem Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton Thursday in charge of Reverend Zeno Reinsing. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Arnold Mousel, Magnus Konz, Clarence Probst, Cletus Konz, Leander Konz, Darwin Jemming, grandsons.

Many hundreds paid tribute to this beloved pioneer mother, who so bravely assumed the responsibilities of her large family upon the early death of her husband.

Children present for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Nick Konz of Adrian, Minnesota; Math Konz, Messrs. And Mesdames John Konz, Otto Probst, Henry Vortherms, all of Alton; Mr. and Mrs. William McGough, Huron, South Dakota; Mrs. Ceal Baer, El Paso, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tastove, Adrian, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jemming, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Konz all of Lincoln, Nebraska.
