Abbe Heikens Buried at Matlock Friday; Has Lived here since 1918.

Funeral Services for A. Heikens for the past nine years a resident of this city, were held from the home here Friday. Mr. Heikens, who had been in ill health for the past several years, died December 19, his death being directly traceable to injuries received on Dec 5, when he fell and broke his hip, and received severe internal injuries. Rev. H. m. Burns of this city, officiated at the services at the home here. Later, the body was taken to the Matlock church, where final services were held. Interment was made in the cemetery at that place. Five sons, and Harm Geerdes and old family friend acted as pall bearers.

Abbe Heikens was born in Klinge Ostriesland Germany. There he grew to manhood coming to this country in 1880. He was married to Wupke Eilders on December 9, 1996. Mr. and Mrs. Heikens lived on a farm near Matlock until 1918. Then they removed to Rock Rapids.

Mr. Heikens died at an age of 70 years and 18 days. He is survived by Mrs. Heikens, seven sons and four daughters, eleven grandchildren and one sister who still lives in Germany. The sons are Weert and Harm of Stockton CA, John, Mike and Harry of Nashua, MT, Ollie of Hardwick MN and Fred of Rock Rapids. The daughters are Jennie (Mrs. John Heimensen) and Sina (Mrs. Ed Sluijer) both of Matlock, Emma (Mrs. George Geerdes) of George and Minnie, of Long Beach, CA. With the exception of Weert and Harm all were present for the funeral. Mr. Heikens suffered a stroke of paralysis in I918, shortly after moving to Rock Rapids, from which he never fully recovered. On December 5 he fell, breaking his hip. From Injuries received in that fall be passed away on December 19 at three o'clock In his home at 703 Miller Ave.
