Mrs. Bertha (Nelson) Knutson, a resident of Hawarden for over 30 years, passed away in the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City last Thursday following a lingering illness from heart trouble.

Her remains were brought to Hawarden and funeral services were held at the Ross Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, with Reverend Neal Orcutt of the Associated Church in charge. Interment was in Grace Hill Cemetery. The pallbearers were W.E. and C.H. Sedgwick, Leonard Scriven, Martin and Carl Anderson and Robert Johnston. Mrs. John Abels sang two selections with Mrs. A.C. Hemming as accompanist.

The deceased was born in Norway January 8, 1870, and so was past 74 years of age at the time of her death. She came to the United States in 1889 and made her home in Hawarden. She was united in marriage with Ole Knutson at Hooker, South Dakota, August 22, 1891. Following the death of her husband in 1940 she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Helen Westcott in Sioux City.

A son, Corporal Noble Knutson, was killed in action in France, July 14. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Westcott of Sioux City; Tillie of Hawarden; and Lillian of Anaheim, California and two sons, Emil of Council Bluffs and Norman of Hudson. She also leaves seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Associated Church in Hawarden.

Out of town people who attended the funeral were Mrs. Mary Westcott and Kate, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd De Harty and William J. Weir of Sioux City, Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Gelvin of Concordia, Kansas and Mrs. Matt Thompson and daughter Eleanor, Anna Anderson, Mrs. Robert Anderson, Ole, Andrew and Vivian Anderson and Mrs. G. Ellingson of Alcester
