PIONEER OF THIS SECTION GOES BEYOND

Valentine Koehler of Granville passed away August 14, 1924 at the age of 70 years. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church in Granville on Saturday, August 16, at 9:00 A.M.

He was born August 19th, 1853 in Spiesheim, Germany. In 1871 he came to this country. He lived in Princeton, Illinois, where he landed, for 12 years. In 1883 he came to Granville where he farmed until 1910, then retired. He married Margaretha Auchstetter at Princeton, Illinois in 1884. She died in May, 1918.

Three children were born to them, Joseph and Mrs. Joseph Schnurr now farming near Granville and Catherine Geracis who died in April, 1918.

Mr. Koehler had been ailing for some time with cancer. In 1920 he had an operation and from then on failed fast. Mrs. George Koehler and daughter of Sublett, Illinois attended the funeral.
