Mrs. Betty Mouw, age 81, of Hospers, formerly of Orange City, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at her daughter’s residence in Prosper, Texas.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Milton Sikkema will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Betty Joyce was born on July 15, 1936, in Hospers, the daughter of James Carl and Jennie (Brink) Huygens. She was raised in Hospers, where she attended the Hospers Public School. After graduation, she attended Northwestern College in Orange City.

On December 6, 1960, she married Roger Owens Mouw in Hospers. They made their home in Hospers, Orange City, and more recently, Frisco, Texas, to be closer to their beloved grandchildren. Betty was employed by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office for 22 years, K-Products for fifteen years, and Mouw’s Super Value, as their bookkeeper, all in Orange City. She also sold real estate part-time. Following the death of her father, Betty cared for her mother for eighteen years. She was known for having a big heart, being generous and selfless, and always putting others before herself.

Mrs. Mouw was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers and the American Reformed Church in Orange City. She enjoyed golfing, working outdoors, painting, and reading. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband of almost 57 years; a daughter and her husband, Roma Bea and Kevin Westra, and three grandchildren, Jude, Pétra and Jada Westra, all of Prosper; two brothers and their wives, Larry and Marge Huygens, of Sioux Center, and Jimmy and Bonnie Huygens, of Orange City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
