Died: October 28, 1915

Nicholas Koch, aged 70 years died Thursday, October 28, at his home in Alton. Kidney trouble which had afflicted the aged man for some time was the cause of death. Mr. Koch was born in Alsace Lorraine and was there married to Miss Anna Dick. In 1892 the couple came to America. They were first engaged in farming at Laverne, Minnesota, and in 1899 came to Alton to live. In the was between France and Germany in 1871 Nicholas Koch served in the French army. Except for Mike Bonneville of Alton he is the only one in this vicinity who fought with France in this war, so far as known.

Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Koch, five of whom are living. He is survived by his wife. The children are Mrs. Anna Bremer of Wilmont, Minnesota, Peter Koch of Dumont, Minnesota, Nic Koch of Sumatra, Montana, Anton Koch also of Sumatra and Mary Koch, a Sister in the St. Francis Hospital at LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

The funeral of Mr. Koch will be held this Saturday morning at 10 A.M. from St. Mary’s Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
