HUSBAND WAS VETERAN OF FRENCH WAR

Mrs. Anna (Dick) Koch, Former Alton Resident, Follows Husband To Great Beyond

After a long illness due to the ailments of old age, Mrs. Anna Koch died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Bernard Bremer, at Wilmont, Minnesota. Upon receiving message of the death of his mother, Nic Kock and his father-in-law, William Schreier, left immediately for Wilmont and the remains were brought to Alton on Monday morning, funeral services being conducted by Reverend Bruno, interment taking place at St. Mary’s Cemetery beside her husband.

Mrs. Koch was 76 years of age at the time of her death and had lived in America about 34 years, coming to this country with her husband and family and locating first at Trosky, Minnesota. Later they moved to Luverne and some years later to Alton where her helpmate died some ten years ago. Mrs. Koch continued to make her home here however, until a year ago, then going to Wilmont to make her home with her daughter there, Mrs. Bremer. Her husband, Nic Koch was a veteran of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71, the worst feature of which for him was an attack of cholera but from which he miraculously recovered. His wife was a native of [………] Lorraine, which became German after the war ended and after a number of years of struggle there, they decided to move to America.

Of the eleven children born to them only five survive their parents, as follows: Anton of Sumatra, Montana; Peter of Dumont Minnesota; Mrs. B. Bremer; Sister M. Camilla, St. Anthony’s Hospital, Carroll; and Nic, the youngest of Bremen. Three of the children died in infancy; Mrs. John Kneip (Alice) of Le Mars, and Mrs. John Fath (Elizabeth) died a number of years ago and Fred was killed in an accident with a shotgun when 17 years of age.

Mrs. Koch was a devoted wife and mother of true Christian ideals who will be sadly missed by her loving children and a host of friends.

All of the children except Sister M. Camilla were here for the funeral and among others from a distance who were present were John Kneip and children of LeMars, John Fath of DeGraff, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Apple of Dundee, Minnesota; John Gengler and Ben Bremer of Wilmont.
