Last rites held for John Doherty

Funeral mass for John Michael Doherty, former Rock Valley resident who died early Sunday morning when he fell into a 100 foot deep canyon near Camptonville, Calif, were held
in St. Mary's Catholic church, Larchwood, at 9:30 am Wednesday, Aug 14. Rev. Harold Cooper officiated.

Pallbearers were Bernard Doherty, James Allen, Frank Doherty, Daniel Sorenson, Kenneth Doherty, and Leslie Severson.

Interment was in St Mary's cemetery, Larchwood, under the direction of Porter Funeral home.

Doherty, a civil engineer at Sacramento, Calif., was on a camping trip with friends when the mishap occurred. It is reported that dirt gave way causing the fall.

He was born at Rock Valley October 11, 1936.
Survivors include the parents; Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Doherty, Inwood; four sisters; Mrs. Elmer Oetken, Merrill, Mrs. Bernard Kippley, Alvord, Mrs. Marie Carmon, Sioux Falls, and Mary
Ann Doherty, Detroit, Mich, and three brothers, Donald, Inwood; Gerald, Flint, Mich., and Robert, Larchwood.
