Mrs. Ludwig C. Knaust of Montrose, South Dakota, daughter of Adolph Witt of Hawarden, passed away Saturday morning, February 26, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held at Montrose at 12:30 Tuesday afternoon after which her remains were brought to Hawarden for burial in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Eda Louise Witt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Witt, was born on December 17, 1888, at Hawarden. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Ireton January 13, 1889. Her early life was spent on a farm east of Hawarden and she attended the rural schools. On May 11, 1902, she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Ireton. She was an accomplished pianist and was organist in the church for many years.

She was united in marriage with Ludwig C. Knaust February 16, 1902, and they located on a farm east of Hawarden where they lived until 1916. They then moved to Montrose, South Dakota and lived there continuously until her death. She was a member of the Lutheran Church at Montrose. She was the mother of seven children, two of whom preceded her in death. The children, who with the husband, survived her are Mrs. Erwin Lottman of Sioux Falls; Mrs. John Davis of St. Charles, Missouri; Pfc. Ludwig Knaust, Jr., who is in New Guinea, and Robert and Donald at home, and four grandchildren. She also leaves her aged father, Adolph Witt of Hawarden, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Eva Heuer and Mrs. Esther Johnson of Hawarden; Mrs. Martha Schiefen of Seattle, Washington; Fred G. Witt of Denver, Colorado, and Robert E. Witt of Cedar Rapids. Her mother preceded her in death in 1927 and her brother, Private Arthur Witt, died in 1918 overseas.

Relatives from Hawarden who went to Montrose to attend the funeral were Adolph Witt, Mrs. Esther Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. William Heuer, Chris Schiefen, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Heuer, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gebauer, Walt Witt and Herman Witt.
