AART KLOEK DIED--BURIED LAST FRIDAY--WAS RESIDENT OF HULL FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS--HAD SUFFERED WITH HEART TROUBLE FOR FIVE YEARS

This community was shocked last Wednesday, just after we went to press, to hear of the death of our old townsman, Aart Kloek.

Mr. Kloek had been associated with the merchandise business here under different leadership, ever since his removal to Hull from Randolph, Nebraska, in 1902. Previous to going to Nebraska, he was publisher of the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad at Sioux Center, Iowa. He was a capable newspaper man and merchant.

Mr. Kloek leaves to mourn his loss a devoted wife, and three children: Mike, Esther and Ada, besides a host of close friends and former business associates. A son, Louis, preceded him in death two years ago.

The funeral was held from the Kloek home in Hull, Friday afternoon, in charge of Reverend R.A. Jager and Reverend C.H. Douwstra and the remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery.

Obituary:

Aart Kloek was born February 3rd, 1859, at Kampen Overijael, The Netherlands, and was therefore nearly seventy-five years old at the time of his death.

At the age of eighteen he became a schoolmaster and at twenty-two years of age was the youngest instructor in The Netherlands, in a government normal school, teaching there for nine years.

In June 1899, he came to the United States and settled on a farm near Sioux Center. A couple of years later he went to Sioux Center where he worked in a store and later edited the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad. From Sioux Center he went to Randolph, Nebraska, where for nine years he was foreman of a ranch.

Mr. Kloek came to Hull from Nebraska in 1902 and for seventeen years he managed the Henry Kloek General Store. Other merchants for whom he worked here were John Wierama, William Rons and Walt Van Dyk.

In 1911 he was married to Hattie Elbers and to this union four children were born. His wife and three of the children, Mike, Esther and Ada survive as do also two brothers Gerrit, of Sioux Falls and Henry of California; and one sister, Mrs. Jake Scholten of Doon.

He was taken ill five years and four months ago and ever since was unable to lie down, and even slept in his chair. He was a great reader and was always found at this, his favorite pastime.

The Index joins the many friends of the family in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved wife and children.
