MRS. FRANK BUSS

Mrs. Frank Buss died at Cherokee, Iowa, Friday, June 11, her death being due to a paralytic stroke which she suffered a few days earlier.

Mrs. Buss was born in Holland, in 1850, and had attained the age of seventy-six years. She came to this country thirty-five years ago, and during the greater part of that time the family resided in Rock Valley. She also lived in Parkersburg, Iowa, and at Parker, S.D.

The remains were brought to Rock Valley for burial last Saturday, and funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Rev. Douwstra, of the First Reformed Church, had charge of the services, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were her husband, Frank Buss, Chas. Walawa[?], Mr. and Mrs. Ben Steck, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Swart, and Howard Steck, all residing in South Dakota.

A briefer obituary in the Alton Democrat (June 18, 1926, Rock Valley news) gives her surname as Busch; says that her body was brought to Rock Valley to the home of her son Dick Steck; and names the surviving children from her first husband: Dick and Howard Steck, Mrs. Chas. Wattawa, Mrs. John Bauman, and Mrs. Sarah Schwartz.

She does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.

Her death certificate has Minnie Buss, wife of Frank Buss; born April 7, 1850 in Holland; resident of the U.S. about 40 years, and of the Cherokee State Hospital 1 year, 1 month, 17 days; parents’ names unknown; died at the Cherokee State Hospital at 9:00 a.m. June 11, 1926; cause, chronic myocarditis; contributory cause, “senile psychosis—simple deterioration”; buried Rock Valley.
