From the Rock Valley Bee, May 7, 1926:

DEATH OF AGED RESIDENT

H. Van’tHul died at the home of his son, B. Van’tHul, Tuesday, April 27, aged eighty-eight years, four months and twenty days. Although Mr. Van’tHul had not been very strong for some time due to his advanced age, he was not taken sick until the Sunday before his death, from which time he failed until death called him.

The subject of this sketch was born in Holland November 7, 1837, where his early life was spent. He came to this country over forty years ago, settling first at Pella, Iowa, later coming to Sioux County where he has lived for several years past. He resided at Boyden for several years and also at Sheldon, but for the past few years has made his home with his son, B. Van’tHul, east of Rock Valley.

He leaves one son, B. Van’tHul, and one daughter, Mrs. H. Hoogdalen, of Siebert, Colorado, who came to attend the funeral services. He also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Rock Valley Friday afternoon. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends of the bereaved relatives.

He does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.

His death certificate has Hermanus Van’t Hul, born Nov. 11, 1837 in the Netherlands; parents Bart Van’t Hul and Driesje Vander Bunte[?]; widowed, wife Gertje uit de Bulten; occupation, retired farmer; resident of the United States 44 years; died April 27, 1926 at 8:00 p.m., cause lobar (upper right) pneumonia; buried May 1 at Rock Valley.
