Last rites held Saturday for G, Vugteveen

Funeral services were. Held on Saturday, July 21 at the Methodist church in Rock Valley, with Rev M. Nelson officiating,for Gerrit Vugteveen of Austin, Minn. He died at the age of 64 on July 16, 1962 after a long illness at St Olaf hospital, Austin, Minn.
He was born July 16, 1898 at Rock Valley. He was married to Freda Johnson, Milaca, Minn, who preceded him in death in 1930. On May 4, 1941 he married Joy Mapes, Emerson, Nebr. The couple resided for several years in Iowa. In 1950 they moved to Princeton, Minn, where they resided for six years. They then moved to Sargeant where they operated a locker plant. He was retired and living in Austin.
Surviving him are his widow one son, Rodney of El Paso, Texas; five daughters; Mrs. Ray Bok (Elaine) Viborg, S. D.; Mrs. Ray Albers (Delores) Hartford, S, D.; Mrs. John J. Kelley (Donna) Kansas City, Kans.; Mary Jean and Carol Vugteveen, Austin, Minn.; one brother, Henry; three sisters Mrs. John T. Dykstra (Ziena); Mrs. Clarence De Vries (Christina) and Mrs. George Brandsma (Lyde).
Preceding him in death were: one infant son, two brothers, and two sisters.
Assisting pallbearers were: Harry Kersbergen, Louis Elberts, Anthony Gacke, Joe Oldenkamp, Mike Cullinan, and Earl Schmidt.

Interment was held at Valley View cemetery, Rock Valley.
