From the Boyden Reporter, February 25, 1926:

CATHARINA MEYN

Catharina Meyn, nee Riebeling, was born at Oppeln Province, Hannover, Germany, on the 12th day of July, 1840, and died following a stroke on February 23, 1926 at 3:30 a.m. at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 11 days, at Boyden. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 o’clock at the St. John’s Lutheran church with Rev. Wm. Brekte, officiating.

In the year of 1864 she was married to Peter Meyn, and they came to this country in 1872, stopping one year at Pittsburgh, Pa., and from there they came to Sioux county in 1873, and settled on the homestead west of Boyden, where they lived until 1899. They then moved to Boyden, and in the year of 1914 Mr. Meyn died, and for the last twelve years Mrs. Meyn has lived with her daughter Mrs. John Rohde.

Eight children were born to this union, three of whom have died. The living are Mrs. John Rohde, Mrs. John Umland, Mrs. Wm. Dickman, Peter Meyn and Herman Meyn of Sheldon. Also 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Deceased was a member of the Lutheran church and a devout Christian woman. The Reporter extends its sincere sympathy to the children and relatives in their hour of bereavement.

An obituary in the Alton Democrat, March 5, 1926, Boyden news, adds a couple more details:

Mrs. Catherine Meyn died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Rohde Tuesday morning, Feb. 23. Death followed shortly after a stroke of paralysis. She was known as “Grandma” Meyn here…. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 P.M. at the Lutheran church north of Boyden, burial taking place at the German Lutheran cemetery.
