Air Force career man, Fred Starr, dies in California

Funeral services were held Feb. 13 at San Bernardino, Calif, for Fred Starr, 49, who died suddenly Feb. 8 following a heart attack.

Military graveside services were held Feb. 14 at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in San Diego with Lt.Hugh Goss, Chaplain, officiating.

Fred Toy Starr was born April 5, 1912 at Rock Valley, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Starr. He was a career man in the United States air force and spent some time in England before receiving his retirement several years ago. At the time of his death he was head of a parachute department for the government at San
Bernardino.

Mr. Starr was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret, two children, Montey and Mitzie, a stepson, Joe Lee, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Staar. of Hudson, four sisters, Evelyn, Mrs. Art Loe; and Wava, Mrs. Hans Janssen of Hudson, S. D; Florence, Mrs. Joe Johnson of Portland, Ore; and Leona, Mrs. Marcus Sparks of Pocatello, Idaho; two brothers, Richard of Yankton, S. D. and Earl of Tyndall, S D.
Among those attending the services were Mrs. Art Loe, Richard Staar, Joe Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Sparks.

Fred lived here with his parents until they left here about 1920.
