Mr. John Muilenburg, age 79, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Tonto Verde, Arizona, formerly of Orange City, Iowa, passed away at his Sioux Falls residence.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 6, at 11:00am, at the Community Church of the Verdes, in Rio Verde, Arizona. A reception will follow. A private committal will be held with the family only in the Memorial Garden preceding the service.

There will also be a memorial service in Sioux Falls in mid-December. Details will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the memorials may be directed to Northwestern College, 101 7th St SW; Orange City, IA, 51041, or the Reigning Grace Ranch, 28614 N 172nd; Rio Verde, AZ, 85263.

John Anthony was born on October 25, 1938, in Orange City, the son of Nelson Alfred and Hermina (Siebersma) Muilenburg. He was raised at Orange City, where he graduated from the public high school and attended Northwestern College. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Westmar College in Le Mars.

On December 21, 1961, he married Mary Ellen Vande Broek at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. He then was a teacher and coach in Moville and Rock Valley, Iowa.

In 1964, he began a thirty plus year career with the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M). His responsibilities were mainly in the human resources area. They lived in many different places, including ten years in Brussels, Belgium.

John enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, traveling, and wood working.

Survivors include his wife of more than 55 years; three children and their spouses, Michael and Wendy Muilenburg, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jane and Scott Hermans, of Algonquin, Illinois; and Matthew and Lora Muilenburg, of Stillwater, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Wesley Muilenburg, Madison Hermans, Kate Muilenburg, and John Muilenburg; and three brothers, Rodney Muilenburg, of Tonto Verde, Arizona; Conrad Muilenburg, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Leon Muilenburg, of Sloan, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
