Mrs. Henrietta De Jong, age 92, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, November 9, at 11:00am, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00opm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Henrietta Jean was born on August 2, 1925, at Orange City, the daughter of Ben and Minnie (De Jong) Gesink. She was raised in Sioux County, where she attended the Maurice Elementary School.

On February 27, 1948, she married Henry F. De Jong in Orange City. They first farmed near Orange City and later moved to a farm west of Maurice. They then moved into Orange City. She was a homemaker and also worked in a bakery and a jewelry store. Henry passed away on November 29, 2010, in Orange City.

In the September of 2017, Mrs. De Jong became a resident of Prairie Ridge.

She was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church. She was an instructor for the Crossroad Bible Institute, a volunteer at Bibles for Missions in Orange City, and she attended Coffee Break in Orange City.

Henrietta enjoyed crafts, gardening, doing handwork, reading, and visiting and playing games with family and friends.

Her strong Christian faith strengthened her and made her a Godly example for her family and community. She lived a life of character and integrity and was appreciated by those who knew her.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Jane De Jong, of Bradenton, Florida; and Fayola Beth, and her husband, David Vander Veen, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a son and his wife, Bryan and Gail De Jong, of Waukee; two grandchildren, Benjamen De Jong, and his wife, Emily; and Lindsey De Jong; a great-granddaughter, Abigail De Jong; three sisters, Albertha Van Roekel, of Sheldon; and Ella Vander Windt and Lois Snieder, both of Orange City; and two sisters-in-law, Arlene Gesink, of Orange City; and Winnifred De Jong, of Ireton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Burt Gesink and John Gesink.

Memorials may be directed to the Crossroad Bible Institute and Bibles for Missions.
