On September 15 occurred the death of Mrs. Ernest Kern after a ling illness from cancer. She was brought here from Taunton, Minnesota about seven weeks ago and was taken to the hospital at Le Mars where she stayed about two weeks and was taken to the home of her parents where she died. The deceased was the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Catherine (Delperdang) Gaul of Granville. She was born in this county the year and was married to Ernest Kern just thirteen years ago on 18 day of September 1906.

The funeral was held on Tuesday morning at nine o’clock from St. Mary’s Church at Alton where high mass was celebrated by Reverend Father Kern from Fort Madison and an uncle of Mr. Ernest Kern.

The Anna Kern is survived by her husband and three small children: Arnold 6 years, Cyrl 4 years and Milo 2 years , besides her parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gaul of Granville and four sisters and eight brothers. The sisters are: Mrs. Mike Holles of Granville, Mrs. Fred Croat also of Granville, Mrs. Emil Hansen of Lismore, Minnesota and Mary at home. The brothers are Peter who is in Frances, Tony of Camp Cody, John, Lambert, Ferdinand, Martin, Nick and Fritz at home.

The funeral was largely attended by many out of town relatives being present showing their last respects for her as she was beloved by every one knew her. The relatives present were Reverend Father Kern of Fort Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Traufler and Miss Clementa from Dyersville, Mrs. Shields, Mrs. Ernster and daughter and Mrs. Delperdang from Remsen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kern from Lismore and Mrs. Mary Brockman of Council Bluffs.
