Mrs. Elizabeth Kellen died Friday, August 26th at the Cherokee Hospital, where she was a patient for several years following a fall at her home here in which her hop was broken. She was a beloved resident of Alton and vicinity since 1889, when she came here as a bride. She was 88 years old.

Elizabeth Martin was married to Peter Kellen at New Holstein, Wisconsin July 2, 1889, and the couple came to this vicinity, settling on a farm east of Alton, now the Will Bindner farm. The family moved to town several years before the death of Mr. Kellen in 1934.

Seven children were born to the union: Matilda, Mrs. Nic Henrich of Alton; O.M. Kellen, Waco, Texas; H.N. Kellen, Sioux City; Johanna, Mrs. Al Staab, Hadley, Minnesota; Laura and George Kellen, Alton; E.W. Kellen, Honolulu, T.H.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church Monday, August 29th, in charge of Reverend Z. Reising. Pallbearers were Mike and Nick Hansen, O.P. Kettler, Mike Herrig, Martin Streff, Peter Schneider.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kellen arrived by plane from Honolulu, O.M. Kellen, from Waco, Mr. and Mrs. Al Staab, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Staab and Mr. and Andrew Staab, Hadley; Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Kellen and Carl Kellen, all of Sioux City, Iowa, Arleen Kellen, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gahan Danbury, Herb Brenner, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Hemmen, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Bunkers, Mrs. Ann Bunkers, Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Mrs. Tom Angilh, Faulkton, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Klein, Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klein, Howard, South Dakota; Messrs. And Mesdames Nick Kellen, Frank Klein, Joe Kellen, Ted Bullerman and Mary Alice, Adrian Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bucholz, Carroll; Francis Henrich, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Henrich, Archer, Kay Kellen, Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kellen, Le Mars, Mr. and Mrs. William Kellen, Remsen.

Mrs. Kellen was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor. She is remembered kindly by many friends.
