Mary E. Jurrens, 93, of Alcester, died Thursday, November 4, 1997 at the Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester.

Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Kevin Richter officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation was Thursday at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. A Prayer Service was on Thursday at the Church.

Mrs. Jurrens was born December 7, 1903, near Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Helker) Hoing. In 1916, the family moved to Kimball, South Dakota.

On October 4, 1927, she was united in marriage to Bernard Jurrens at Kimball. After their marriage they farmed near Kimball before moving to Alcester, South Dakota area in 1939. In 1977, they retired and moved into Alcester.

Bernard died July 18, 1988.

Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Alter Society. She was employed at Otis Radio Repair Shop at Hawarden for 15 years, retiring in 1969.

Survivors include a son, Duane Jurrens and wife Delores of Hawarden; two daughters, Donna Anderberg of Alcester, South Dakota and Delores Helma and husband Leonard of Blue Springs, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers; one sister and three grandchildren.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to Vermillion, South Dakota Hospice Fund.
