Bernard J. Jurrens, 85, of Alcester died Monday, July 18, 1988 in a hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services were 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 1988 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Daniel Jurrens, Douglas Jurrens, Dale Jurrens, David Helma, Thomas Helma and Mark Merrick.

Mr. Jurrens was born near Kimball, South Dakota on September 19, 1902. On October 4, 1927 he was united in marriage to Mary Hoing at Kimball, South Dakota. After their marriage he made his home near Kimball before moving to the Alcester area in 1938. He farmed near Alcester until 1977 when he retired from farming and moving into Alcester. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of Hawarden and was a fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; one son, Duane of Hawarden; two daughters, Dolores Helma of Blue Springs, Missouri and Donna Anderberg of Alcester; two sisters, Mabel Shuck of Alcester and Myrtle Disbrow of South Gate, California; one half-brother, Paul Bauer of Riverside, California; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
