Chester L. Dayle, 85, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services was March 30 at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Reverend Jeff Swanson officiating. Burial followed in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden with Military Rites by the Hawarden VFW and American Legion. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden is handling the arrangements.

Chester I. Dagle was born February 18, 1920 at Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Scott) Dayle. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1938.

Chet married Marjorie Johnson December 27, 1942 at Cylinder, Iowa. He worked two years on the Alcon Highway and joined the US Navy January 1944. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. He farmed for several years and then had a milk route for Roberts and Wells Blue Bunny. The family moved to Emerson, Nebraska where he worked as a rural salesman for Sioux City Journal. They purchased a general store in Emerson and also had stores in Osmond, Wausa and Plainview. They returned to Hawarden upon retirement.

He was active in his church, being a charter member of the American Lutheran Church and 60 year member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; two sons: Paul of Portland, Oregon and Daniel of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Shirley Dagle, Lorraine Fredrikson and Hyacy Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Stacy Dagle, brothers, Walter and Donald and brother-in-law, Hubert Johnson and Jacob Fredrikson. Dagle,
