Mr. Henry Hoekstra, age 83, of Hull, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, September 8, at 10:30am, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. James Laning will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Friday, at 9:30am, at the church.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, at the CHURCH. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Henry was born on May 15, 1934, at Boyden, the son of Peter M. and Florence (De Boer) Hoekstra. He was raised at Boyden and Hull.

On January 9, 1956, he married Hildred Harriet Docter in Edgerton, Minnesota. He then served in the United States Army. The couple made their home on a farm near Hull until 1995, when they moved into town. “Hillie” passed away on July 31, 2016, in Hull, after more than sixty years of marriage.

Mr. Hoekstra was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and participated in the Men’s Society.

Survivors include nine children and their spouses, Gladys and James Koole, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Pauline and Brian Kroese, of Hull; Linda and Henry Kamps, of Grandville, Michigan; Harlan and Lenora Hoekstra, of Grand Rapids; Vernon and Kari Hoekstra and Mark and La Beth Hoekstra, all of Hull; Mary and Jeff Kalsbeek, of Grand Rapids; Rose and Jeff Andringa, of Hull; and Patty and Barry Pollema, of Doon; 55 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a Brother and his wife, Ted and Harriet Hoekstra, of Hull; two sisters, Florence Brunsting, of Hull; and Dorothy, and her husband, Bill Mulder, of Palm Springs, California; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hoekstra, of Hull.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Harlan Dale Hoekstra; an infant grandson, James Andringa; and brothers and sisters and their spouses, Eunice and Gerrit Brummel, Martin and Stella Hoekstra, George and Greda Hoekstra, John and Nelva Hoekstra, Donald Hoekstra, Ray Brunsting, Pete and Sharon Hoekstra, and Bernice and Bert Van Maanen.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School or the Trinity Christian High School in Hull.
