Mrs. Alice Ver Steeg, age 80, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, September 8, at 2:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Alice Thelma was born on October 14, 1936, in Steen, Minnesota, the daughter of Albertus and Margaret (De Boer) Bartels. She was raised in Sioux Center, where she graduated from high school.

On September 6, 1957, she married Leon Dale Ver Steeg in Sioux Center. They made their home in Orange City, where she and Bus raised their family and operated their business, Ver Steeg Transfer, until recently retiring.

Alice was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school classes, and volunteered as service chairwoman for many years.

Survivors include her husband of almost sixty years; eight children and their spouses, Lora and Dave Vande Brake, of Sheldon; Paula and Rick Achterhof, of Orange City; Wendy and Marc Chapman, of Austin, Texas; Jana and Brad De Jong, of Orange City; Chad and Brenda Ver Steeg, of Pella; Brent and Tracy Ver Steeg, of Hospers; Mary and John Swart, of Orange City; and Shane and Jill Ver Steeg, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Virginia and Gilbert Dietz, of Muscatine; and a brother and his wife, Peter and Louise Bartels, of Kirkland, Washington.

She is also survived by Bus’s brothers and sisters and their spouses, Wanda Kuiken, of Maurice; Irma Beukelman, of Madison, South Dakota; Shirley and Marty Wierda, of Sioux Center; Eva and Ervin Huizenga, of Orange City; Pat and Don Fedders, of Milford; Larry and Jane Ver Steeg, of Hawarden; Stan Ver Steeg, of Orange City; and Nancy and Dave Vellinga, of West Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents in law, Laurence and Sadie Ver Steeg; a sister and her husband, Gladys and Marvin Vermeer; and two brothers-in-law, Wilson Kuiken and Eldon Beukelman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
