Mrs. Gwendolyn (Jansen) Jones, age 62, of Elk Point, South Dakota, formerly of Alton, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Accura Healthcare of Sioux City.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, September 13, at 11:00am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the church. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Gwendolyn Beth was born on February 4, 1955, at Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of James Henry and Elizabeth Jeanette (Byker) Jansen. She attended the Floyd Valley High School and the Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, Iowa.

On November 13, 1992, she married Thomas Morgan Jones in Alton. They made their home in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Gwen worked at the Sheldon Hospital; was an office manager for Dr. Michael Jones, ENT Specialist; a medical clerk/receptionist at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City; and served as President of the National Association of Medical Secretaries.

She was a lifelong member of the Alton Reformed Church. Gwen’s hobbies included hummingbirds and cooking. Her greatest joy in life was her family. A vital part of Gwen’s wellbeing was spending time with her grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, whether that was celebrating their milestones or supporting them in their various activities.

Survivors include her husband of more than 24 years; three step-children and their spouses, Leslie and Roger Knobbe, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; September and Brian Wanzenreid, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Thomas and Heidi Jones, of Leesville Louisiana; six step-grandchildren, Cece and Augie Knobbe, Lilly and Grayson Wanzenreid, and Adelaide and Thomas Jones; two brothers and three sisters and their spouses, Greg Jansen, and his wife Becky, of Alton, and their family, Noah (Sybil), Adin, Abigail, Brantley and Connor Jansen, Laura Jansen, Isaiah (Ashley) Jansen, and Micah (Katelyn) Jansen; Kevin Jansen, and his wife Nancy, of Orange City, and their family, Nathan (Kayse), and Nayleen Jansen, Aaron (Kelsey) Jansen, Daniel (fiance Chandler Nielsen) Jansen, Levi Jansen, and Josiah Jansen; Valerie, and her husband, Michael Weaver, of LeMars, and their family, Cameron Weaver, Mitchell Weaver, Terry (Kelly), Brett, James, and Jared Weaver, and Trista (Derrick) Colyer, Shaya, Bryah and Liam; Kimberly, and her husband, Gary Waddell, of Le Mars, and their family, Tiffany (Justin), Jace, and Dillyn Holman, Charissa (Tyler), Jayden, and Carson Zeimetz, Rochelle (Jake), Trinity, Hunter, Brooklyn, Brek, Presten, Denver, and Blake Chapman, and Chelsey (James), Landon, Carter, Rian, and Parker Van Roekel; Joni, and her husband, Dan Dziekonski, of Paris, Tennessee, and their family, Taylor (Anna) Hofmeyer, and Travis (Melannie) Hofmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Beth Jansen.
