Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Dorothy Johnson, 85, who died Thursday at the Panska Nursing Home, were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Methodist Church at Viborg, South Dakota.

Reverend Chester Custer of Hawarden and Reverend Robert McBride officiated with burial at Rosehill Cemetery at Vigborg. Mrs. Dan Bylander, a grandniece, sang “Beyond the Sunset.” Other hymns were sung by Mrs. Wesley Peterson and Miss Roberta Peterson, with Mrs. Robert Ward as organist.

Mrs. Johnson was born December 31, 1873 at Brunshus, Denmark, a daughter of Peter and Anna Pedersen. She traveled to this country alone at the age of 15 to make her home with her half brother, Nels Johnson and wife at Hooker, South Dakota.

At the age of 17 on February 7, 19891, she married Nels J. Johnson. By this marriage she became a United States citizen. One of the five children born to this union died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson spent most of their married life at Hooker. On March 10, 1947, they came to Hawarden to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Hannah McManaman. Here they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 7, 1951.

Mr. Johnson died August 30, 1951. Mrs. Johnson entered the nursing home on June 3, 1957, where she received care until her death.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include a 96 year old brother, Nels Johnson, the oldest of the family, of which she was the youngest; two daughters, Mrs. McManaman of Hawarden and Mrs. Della Frank of Rapid City, South Dakota; two sons, A.P. Johnson of Hawarden and W.P. Johnson of Butte, Montana; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
