Mrs. Chris Johannsen, 57, of the Big Springs Community, who spent most of her life in this vicinity, died last Thursday evening after a short illness. She was a patient for a time at the Hawarden Hospital and then returned home.

Funeral services were held at 1:45 Monday afternoon at the Frazier Funeral Home and at 2:30 at Nathannel Lutheran Church in Alcester with Reverend Marvin Johnson officiating. At the funeral Mrs. John Morgan, with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as accompanist, sang “In the Garden.”

Pall bearers were Melvin Harders, Herbert Bergdale, Herman Jacobs, Earl Heiman, Leo Schiefen and Bob Johnson. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.

Rosella Stephenson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Stephenson, was born April 16, 1898, at Durham, Missouri, but went to South Dakota as a child. She was married to Chris Johannsen February 25, 1925.

Besides the widower, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gene Lykken of Alcester; three sons, Wendell of Los Angeles, California, Donald of Hawarden and Arnold of Alcester; two brothers, Harry Stephenson of Alcester and Onle Stephensen of Los Angeles, California and four grandchildren.
