Services Were Held For Mrs. Johnson.

Mrs. Alice Johnson, 74, who for many years was a resident of Hawarden, died April 17, 1957, in a rest home at Chehalis, Washington. She had been seriously ill for three days. Mrs. Johnson had been a long time sufferer of arthritis and was confined to a wheel chair for a number of years.

Alice Ione Teeple was born June 8, 1882, at Waukan, Iowa, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Teeple.

At the age of six she moved with her parents to College View, Nebraska, where her father assisted in erecting the college. At an early age she was baptized in the Seventh Day Adventist faith.

After attending Union College she spent several years teaching church school and working at the Christian Record Office which was just beginning its work of publishing literature for the blind.

She also served as sabbath school secretary for the Nebraska Conference and held many offices in the Seventh Day Adventist Churches she attended.
On March 4, 1914, she married William Henry Johnson at College View, Nebraska. To this union were born three daughters, Velma, who died in infancy, Lois and Celia.

After her marriage she and her husband lived on a homestead near Dunn Center, North Dakota, about three years. In 1918 they moved to Hawarden where she made her home until about three years ago. Her husband preceded her in death, December 26, 1941, having succumbed to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Two foster daughters, Betty Lou and Margaret White, were raised in the Johnson home. Betty Lou was the victim of a fatal drowning while in Oregon.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lois Pember of Sonars, California, and Mrs. Cilia Maddox of Chehalis, Washington; a sister, Mrs. Herman Renken of Laredo, Texas, and a foster daughter, Mrs. Margaret Shepard of Rieth, Oregon.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 Monday afternoon in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Reverend A. H. Liebelt officiating. The body arrived in Hawarden, Monday and was at the Barnard Funeral Home. Mrs. Pember accompanied the body here from the west. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa.
