Irene Jansma, 92, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Alton, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at the Arlington Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 1, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Reverend Father James Tiggs officiated. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Frances Irene was born March 17, 1907, at Churdan, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Faye) Couch. On December 31, 1947, she married Marinus Arnold Jansma in Jefferson. He died January 24, 1980, in Granville.

Mrs. Jansma lived in Alton much of her life. About 15 years ago she moved to Texas. She had been living at the Heritage Oaks Nursing Home in Arlington. Mrs. Jansma was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Patricia and Philip Baur of Arlington; a stepson and his wife, Erwin and Beth Jansma of Waukee; three grandchildren; Becky Rick McCanse of Illinois, William and Carrie Jansma of Colorado, and Jim and Shirley Jansma of New Jersey; three great-grandchildren, Seth and Anna McCanse, and Jake Jansma; two nephews, Alan and Arnold Heflin; and a niece, Ann Heflin.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard Jansma.
