Dr. Wilmar B. Jansma, 55, of Iowa City, formerly of Hull, died at his home in Iowa City on October 17, 1999, following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, the Reverend Ralph Ponier officiated. Interment was held at the Hope Cemetery at Hull, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home.

Dr. Wilmar B. Jansma was born October 11, 1944, in Rock Rapids, the son of Peter and Anna (Vander Kooi) Jansma. He was raised in Hull and was a graduate of Hull Christian High School. He graduated from Dordt College on Sioux Center and received his Doctorate Degree in Biology from Iowa State University and his Master in Public Health from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Wilmar was a biologist and professor at Townson State University in Maryland, Indiana State University of Northern Iowa. He was a professor of Sience at Kirkwood College in Iowa City since 1991.

Survivors include two brothers, Thelmar Jansma of Dell Rapids, South Dakota and Andrew Jansma and his wife, Cindy, of Primghar; a sister, Jeanene Jansma of West Des Moines; five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
