Obituary

De „Vr. Vereen.“ (Woman‘ Society?) of the 1st Reformed Community here does regret and mourn the loss of one of her members.
The Widow G. De Zeeuw has passed away April 29, aged 69 years. Three sons and two daughters also do mourn her passing away, but not like one who’s not having hope. Her loving God and his Service is what she accentuated, as she was used to acclaim.

Her Sunday-Services and the meeting of the society too; so she was gentle in contributing.
Deciding We do express our sympathy to the children at the loss of beloved mother.
Deciding we do chronicle this decision in our offence-report and offer it for further
publication in „De Hope“, „ Nieuwsblad“ and „De Volksvriend“.

Mrs.Wed. Gijsbert De Zeeuw >
In Memory
The Widow Gijsbert De Zeeuw passed away April 30, aged 68 yrs, 8 m. and 9 days.
She was born at Nunspeet, Gelderland, Netherlands and did marry there to Gerrit De Vries, her first husband She had to miss him after some few years and so she came here as a widow with two little children 36 years ago.
Here in Sioux Co. She did marry once again, to Gossen (Note: in Dutch normally spelled Goossen) De Zeeuw, taken away by death after 7 months only. After this, she did marry to Gijsbert De Zeeuw, this marriage did last for 21 years, till April 10, 1901. as she had to miss her last husband too.
Out of this last marriage 3 children still are alive, all living in Sioux Co. From first marriage yet two, C. De Vries and Mrs M. De Boer, both living at Churchville, Minn.
So still alive are 2 children of Mrs. Tayler, a daughter from her first marriage (note: to Gerrit de Vries), who died 14 years ago.
The late mother did fear the Lord. In her Childhood she searched for Him, Jesus was valuable to her. At the age of 19 she conceeded to Him. She was friend and companion of everyone loving and serving the Lord; faithfully visitor of The Lord’s house. A serious member of Christian Church; a long time member oft she „Vr.zend.Vereen“ (Woman’s missionary Society ?), contributing willingly to all Lord’s Work, especially missionaring.

In the last few years she stayed at home with her children; Mostly at Mr. and Mrs G. De Zeeuw, where she did passe away. She was hit by a stroke on Sunday April 26, being speechless after that.
She did pass away softly and quiet in the Lord and Saviour and we do not need to mourn like those who do not have hope. Warm thanks to Friends and Neighbours for sympathy and help during the illness, the passing away and the funeral of our beloved mother.

Note: According to an online report on ancestry.com She was the daughter of Cornelis Van Grevenhof 1802-1857 and Gerritje Hofman 1804-1864
