Mrs. John Groen passed away in a. m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Orange City hospital where she had been for some days. She had been in poor health for some time, and her illness became serious about ten days ago. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Zwiep, she was born Oct. 23, 1888 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and came to America in 1909, going first to Chicago, where she was married to John Groen on March 9,1916. They came to Ireton in 1919 and Mr. Groen entered the bakery business. This has been their home and his occupation since that time.

Two daughters were born to their union, Marie, who is now Mrs. Bernard De Jong, and Jeanette, who is at home. Surviving also are five brothers and two sisters, Morris Zwiep of Portland, Mich., and Don Zwiep of Hull are the only two who do not reside in the Netherlands.

Funeral services will be held in the English language from the home a 1:30 Friday afternoon, Feb. 21, and from the Christian Reformed church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. J. H. Van Dyke will be in charge. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Groen was highly esteemed by all. Her Christian life, her wifely traits, her motherly purposes and inspirations will always be remembered by her loved ones, and the kindnesses in words and deeds among her neighbors, and friends will stand as monuments. She was a member of the church which performed the last rites for her, and she loved that church and as steadfast in following its teachings. The whole community is saddened by her death, and we express sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Note: In the 1930 census they were listed as John Green born about 1885 Netherlands wife Jennie born about 1889 Netherlands came to USA in 1914. Children – Maire 13, and Janet 10.
