Mrs. Jake Jans who died early last week was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Vliet and was buried in the Boyden Cemetery on Thursday, February 17. Services were held at one o’clock at the home and 1:30 o’clock at the Reformed Church.

It is believed that death was caused by a hemorrhage, as Mrs. Jans has suffering for some time with cancer of the stomach, having underwent an operation for that complaint in December 1936, and since that time has been under medical care.

Mrs. Anna Jans was born May 10, 1888, at Maurice, Iowa, and was united in marriage with Jake Jans at Orange City, October 28, 1907, and at time of death was 49 years, 9 months and 4 days of age and leaves a husband, 7 daughters and 3 sons to mourn her demise.

The husband was stricken with blindness some 4 years ago from some cause which we are unable to ascertain at present. Three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Vander Zwaag of Hull; Mrs. John Wolters of Denver, Iowa, and Mrs. John Kleen of Sioux Center, are married, while the children who are living at home, on their farm mid-way between Boyden and Hull, south of highway 18, are: Jake 20, Henry 15, Marion 10, Grace 19, Carrie 17, Angeline 12, and Harriet 7 years of age.

Among the many friends and relatives who attended the services and funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Schoeneman of Doon, Mr. and Mrs. Newman of Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Vliet, Rock Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Vander Vliet, Hull; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vander Vliet, Coulton, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. John Wolkswinkle, Hull; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wolfswinkle, Rock Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Moss, Hull, and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jaffer, Matlock.
