Mrs. Mary Alice (Harris) James, an old resident of this community, died at her home on the north side about seven o’clock last Thursday evening, following an illness of several months.

The deceased was born in Bedford County, Virginia, October 6, 1848, so at the time of her death had attained the age of 68 years, 2 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage with Andrew F. James at St. Louis, Missouri, November 13, 1872, and they afterwards moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia. They came to this section in 1880 and settled on a farm near this place where they continued to reside for many years. A number of years ago they went to Emmett, Idaho, but after a residence there of a few years returned to Hawarden where they have continued to make their home.

Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Katie Gilkerson of Emmett, Idaho, Frank James of Gooding, Idaho, and Marvin and Harris James of Hawarden. Her three sons were at her bedside when the end came.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in this city, conducted by the pastor, Reverend A.M. McIntosh. The music was rendered by a quartet composed of Mrs. W.F. Wolf, Miss Anna Smith and Messrs. Chas. Schoenerman and W.S. Weaver. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

A wide circle of friends is left to mourn her loss and all join in extending sincerest sympathy to the members of her family circle.
