Obit for Gosen DeZeeuw,

De Volksvriend, dated Oct 30, 1879,
Plaatselijk Nieuws section, col 2: Last Saturday night one of our first settlers of our colony, Mr. Gosen De Zeeuw, died. A large number of friends followed his remains to the cemetery where he was laid to rest on Monday. The Rev Stadt, pastor of the Seceder Church of here, of which the deceased was a worthy member, gave a touching eulogy at the funeral service. [Translated by J. Smith]

Gozen or Goossen De Zeeuw was born 29 Jan 1837 at Vuren, Gelderland Netherlands; to Sander De Zeeuw and Neeltje Blom

He and brother Gijsbert had come to America in 1866 on the disastrous journey of the ship SS England. They were heading for Pella IA.

He had just married in Feb. 1879 to Hendrikje VanGrevenhof. She married Gozen’s brother Gijsbert soon after Gozen died. She had been initially married to Gerrit De Vries and had several De Vries children, she and Gijsbert had several childen.
