The sad and sudden death of Hamilton Jackson, who died last Saturday night, came as a shock to this community. Impressive funeral services were held from the Hotel on Tuesday afternoon, with Reverend Karl Megchelsen officiating. Interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery.

Hamilton Jackson was born on the 6th day of February, in the year of 1845, at Summit, New York, and was 73 years 10 months of age at the time of his death. In the year of 1873 he was united in marriage to Francis M.(Schuyler) Jackson, to which union three children were born, Mrs. Lena Bergman, Maud and Ruth, all of Boyden, and they together with his wife, brother, two nephews, and one niece, are left to mourn his death.

Deceased was one of the pioneers of the west, coming here in the early years. He homesteaded of what is now known as the A.A. Kuyper farm. Some twenty years ago he moved to Washington with his family, living there for one year and then returning to Boyden. Soon after their return he came into possession of the Merchants Hotel, which he successfully operated up until the time of his death. During the past 35 years, deceased made two trips back to his birthplace, but each time returning to Iowa better satisfied. He was a devote husband and a kind and indulgent father, and to his friends the soul of fellowship. His death means a great lost to his family and to the community.

Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral are: Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Gray and son of Highmoor, South Dakota and Mr. E. Lanning of Inwood, Iowa.

The Reporter extends its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.
