Mrs. John Hyink Dies at Hospers

Hospers people were saddened Saturday evening to learn of the death of Mrs. John Hyink at the University hospital In Iowa City. She passed on at 6:30 that evening following an operation two weeks previous. She appeared to be improving but had a relapse Friday.

Mrs. Hyink, nee Katie Tillema, was born September 20, 1876 at Fulton, Illinois, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius and Trientje (Van Akkeren) Tillema.

When a young girl she accompanied her parents to a farm near Newkirk where she grew to womanhood.

On April 23, 1894, she was married to John Hyink and the couple settled in Hospers where Mr. Hyink worked in a general store for some years, then moved to Milwaukee but returned to Hospers after four years.

Three children were born to the couple, John Benjamin and a baby daughter, who preceded her in death and a second son, Cornelius, of Sioux City.

Mrs. Hyink was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church and a charter member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Church.

Surviving are her husband, one son, Cornelius of Sioux City, two sisters, Mrs. Reeka Wilkens of Sheldon, Mrs. Ella Woertink of Long Beach, California; five brothers: Harry Tillema of Herman, Minnesota; Albert and Jake of Castlewood, South Dakota; William of Sioux City and Charles of Hospers. A host of friends condole with the family in the passing of this fine Christian woman.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the home and First Reformed Church with Reverend G. Docter in charge. Interment was in the local cemetery.
