Former Hospers Resident Dies At Sioux City

Word was received in Hospers of the death of John Stephen Hyink, who was living in Sioux City, but was originally from Hospers. He was 84 years old at the time of his death. Mr. Hyink had an illness for three weeks.

Funeral services were held in Hospers at 2 p.m. Monday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home. Burial took place in the Newkirk Cemetery.

Mr. Hyink was born to John and Tennetje (Niewenhuis) Hyink on October 11, 1870 in Milwaukee. In 1884 he moved to Newkirk and he married Kathryn Tillma there in 1894.

The Hyinks later went to Milwaukee, where they lived for three years. Later they went to Hospers where Mr. Hyink worked in the Wierda and Monson grocery for 25 years. He later operated his own store in Hospers and he retired about 14 years ago, then moved to Sioux City.

Mr. Hyink was a member of the American Reformed Church in Hospers.

Survivors besides his son include two grandchildren.
