James Hyink was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 3, 1872, and moved to Sioux County in 1884. He lived on the farm which his parents homesteaded, a mile and a half north of Newkirk, until 1894.

Then he was married to Adriantjie Van Rooyen, and the couple moved to a farm north of Newkirk where they lived until 1909.

At this time Mr. and Mrs. Hyink and their son, Walter, moved to Hospers. Mrs. Hyink passed away August 6, 1941.

Mr. Hyink remained in Hospers until September, 1947, when he was taken to the Kleinhesselink Convalescent Home in Orange City because of failing health. He remained there until his death January 14, 1943.

He is survived by one son Walter, and by two grandchildren, James Lee and Janice Lyn. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Albert Balkema of Orange City; a step-sister, Mrs. Lydia Walford of Greshem, Nebraska; and three brothers, John Hyink of Sioux City; Henry Hyink of Glendale, Arizona, and Benjamin Hyink of Sheldon.

Funeral services were held January 17 at the home and at the First Reformed Church. Reverend G. Doctor officiated, and burial was in the Newkirk Cemetery.
