PASSED AWAY IN NEW MEXICO, MRS. J.H. HUTCHINSON FORMER RESIDENT, DIED FRIDAY

Remains brought to Hawarden and funeral held here Wednesday--was 83 years of age

Mrs. John H. Hutchinson, for many years a resident of this city, passed away last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.B Platt, at Hagerman, New Mexico, following an illness of only about two weeks. Accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Platt, the remains were brought to Hawarden, arriving here Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Associated Church, being conducted by Reverend Jas. P. Burling of Des Moines, a former pastor of the Congregational Church of Hawarden, assisted by Reverend William F. Vance, pastor of the Associated Churches. Many old friends and neighbors attended the services. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery where Mr. Hutchinson was laid to rest six years ago.

Ellen Lisor was born at Wooster, Ohio, in 1840. She was one of the nine children born to George and Mary Lisor. She came with her parents from Wooster, Ohio, in covered wagons and settled on a farm near Montezuma, Iowa, in 1855. In November of 1862 she was married to John H. Hutchinson and continued to live in Poweshiek County until the year 1883 when they moved to Hawarden where her husband engaged in the practice of law and they continued to live in Hawarden until Mr. Hutchinson’s death which occurred on December 6, 1916. They celebrated their golden wedding at the home of their daughter in Hagerman, New Mexico, in 1912.

After her husband’s death she made her home with her daughter, Mr. T.B. Platt at Hagerman, New Mexico, where she died Friday morning, March 16, 1923. She was in good health and strength until about two weeks before her death, when she was taken with heart trouble which caused her death.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerman, New Mexico, and died in the Presbyterian Faith. While she lived in Hawarden she was a member of the Congregational Church. When she stepped from this world to that world beyond ours she left behind to mourn her death, one son, J.E. Hutchinson, who lives on a farm near Faulkton, South Dakota, and her daughter, Mrs. T.B. Platt, who resides at Hagerman, New Mexico.

She was a most devoted wife and mother at all times and under all conditions and circumstances. She was by nature kindly and considerate of others. She loved her husband, her children and her home. Her home was always open to her friends and neighbors. She loved flowers, music and good cheer and was ever ready to join in all things moral and uplifting.

She left no brothers or sisters to mourn her death as she was the last member of the family of nine children. She lived a long, useful Christian life. The end came peacefully and without suffering.

Besides Mr. and Mrs. Platt of Hagerman, New Mexico, and their son, Boyne Platt, who is a student at Iowa State College at Ames, other relatives who where here to attend the funeral were her son, J.E. Hutchinson of Faulkton, South Dakota, Judge and Mrs. William Hutchinson of Alton and Mrs. Ethel Gund of Marcus, Iowa.
