Arnold J. Humme, 83, of Hull, died Friday, June 3, 1988, in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were held Monday, June 6, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Hull with the Reverend Gerald Vander Velde officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery at Hull under the direction of the Kraal-Oolman Funeral Home of Hull.

Mr. Humme was born October 8, 1904, at Hull. He married Cornelia “Kate” Vos February 18, 1927, at Doon. They farmed north of Hull until the spring of 1961, when they moved into town. He remained active until retirement, serving in various occupations. Mrs. Humme died April 4, 1988, at Rock Valley.

Mr. Humme was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as an elder and a deacon. He was also active in the church’s men’s brotherhood and served as a Sunday School and Catechism teacher. He was also a charter member of the Sioux County March of Dimes.

Survivors include three sons, John of Pequannock, New Jersey, Peter of Hull, and James of Rock Valley; four daughters, Mrs. Ted (Nelverne) Marra of Sanborn, Mrs. Alan (Norma) Vander Meulen of Ocheyedan, Mrs. Harlan (Mary) Van’t Hul of Rock Valley, and Donna Humme of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, William of Boyden, Iowa; two sisters, Dena Humme of Hull and Mrs. John (Coba) Van Wyk of Sanborn; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, David and one great-grandson.
