Ms. Pamela Caldwell, age 57, formerly of Carmel, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at her home in Gold Hill, Oregon.

There will be a gathering on Thursday, July 13, in Oregon. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, July 26, at 11:00am, at the Carmel Reformed Church in rural Rock Valley. The Rev. Michael Pitsenberger will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Carmel Cemetery. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is assisting the family.

Pamela Jo was born on August 2, 1959, in Orange City, the daughter of Marvin and Shardell (Popma) Swets. She was raised on a farm near Carmel and attended the Sioux Center Community Schools, graduating in 1978.

In 1980, she left Iowa for the wilds of Montana, Arizona, and Wyoming, settling in Oregon in 1987. She attended Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University, graduating with a degree in Wildlife Biology in 1994. She was employed by the federal government for twenty years and especially loved her “owls”.

In 2014, Pam was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) / Lyme Disease.

In earlier years, she was a member of the Carmel Reformed Church. Later, she was re-baptized as an adult at the Table Rock Fellowship in Medford, Oregon.

Pamela enjoyed the mountains, rivers, and all nature activities.

Her family consists of her daughter, Kylie; her son, Drew; their father, Rob Caldwell; her mother, Shardell Swets; her two brothers, Mark Swets, and his wife, Deb; and Jay Swets; her special friend, Dale Rau; and many nephews and nieces, uncles and aunts, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Swets; and her grandparents, John and Johanna Swets and Delbert and Sebianne Popma.

She will be remembered for her immense “smiles”, positive spirit, deep love of family and friends, and passion for the natural world.

Memorials may be given to the family to establish an education fund for Kylie and Drew.
