Died: February 26, 2000Marie Hoogendorn, 92, of Rock Valley died Saturday, February 26, at Northwestern Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 29, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, the Reverend Mike Van Hamersveld officiated. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Hoogendorn was born June 10, 1907, near Middleburg, the daughter of Gerrit and Jessie (Roetman) Lems. She attended country school near Doon. She helped her father farm, cleaned homes and worked at Doorn Paint Store in Rock Valley.
She married Arie Hoogendorn in April of 1933. They farmed near Luverne, Minnesota. They retired in 1965 and moved to Rock Valley. Arie died August 20, 1978. She moved into Sheldon Christian Retirement Home in August of 1999.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, tatting and hardanger.
She belonged to the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Viola and Kenneth Van Voorst; a sister, Jennie Kooima, all of Rock Valley; two granddaughters, Ruth Popkes and Mary Miller; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Lambert Lems.
