DEATH OF WELL KNOWN CITIZEN

Robert L. Holm, for the past fourteen years station agent for the Northwestern Railway Company at Alton, died very suddenly at his home about 7:30 Sunday night from a stroke of apoplexy. He was stricken as he sat reading a newspaper in his home and death followed within five minutes. He suffered s slight stroke about two months ago but recovered sufficiently so that he had resumed his work. He was 49 years of age and was one of Alton’s best known citizens. Prior to going to Alton he had served as station agent at Peterson and Paulina. On November 7, 1899 he was married to Matilda Jacobe.

Mr. Holm was president of the Alton Commercial Club, a member of the City Council and the Board of Education. He was district chairman of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Holm is survived by his wife, Matilda and two sons, Roscoe and Marcell. Roscoe, better known as “Waddy” Holm is a member of the world’s champion St. Louis Cardinal baseball club. He had spent Thanksgiving at home with his parents and was making preparations to leave Sunday evening when his father was fatally stricken. Mrs. Matilda Holm is a sister of Frank Jacobe of Hawarden. The funeral was held today at Alton.
