Died: July 8, 1934

Mrs. Robert L. Holm, for many years a well loved Alton resident, passed on at the Boone County Hospital, Boone, Iowa, on Sunday, July 8, after a severe and lingering illness. She was 54 years old.

Matilda Jacobe was born at Odebolt, Iowa on June 6, 1881, and grew to womanhood. On November 7, 1899, she was married to Robert L. Holm. The couple resided at Odebolt until 1906 when they moved to Peterson, three years later to Paulina and in 1913 to Alton, where “Bob” as he was affectionately known was station agent until his death in 1926.

Not long after her husband’s passing Mrs. Holm left Alton, going first Florida, then to St. Louis, and later to Long Beach, California, where she resided until last spring. For some years her health had been declining and in the last few months she failed rapidly. In April her son, Dr. Marcel Holm, brought his mother to his home at Grand Junction where she remained until taken to the hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Marcel L. Holm of Grand Junction and Roscoe A. Holm of Storm Lake; by one grandson, Robert Powell Holm, Storm Lake; by three brothers, Frank Jacobe of Hawarden, Chris and Herman of Sterling, Colorado. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Holm was a loyal member of the Order of Eastern Star, having united with the order while living at Peterson. She has filled all the offices of the Order and while at Long Beach became a member of the White Shrine. She was a member of the local Presbyterian Church but after moving to Long Beach, united with the Christian Church. Mrs. Holm was a devoted wife and mother, prominent in the social life of the town, an earnest worker in the organizations to which she belonged, faithful in every trust and loved by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 17th at the Presbyterian Church in Alton at two o’clock, conducted by her former pastor, Reverend George Bray of Surphur Springs, who spoke words of comfort. Beautiful music was provided by the church choir, Mrs. C.H. Hoeven, Mrs. W.B. Hyink, Mrs. Richard Cambier, and Miss Evelyn Smit. Mrs. Ralph Van Zyl was the organist. Floral tributes were many and beautiful. At. Nassau Township Cemetery, Mrs. W.R. Johnson of Cherokee with the assistance of local members conducted the impressive Eastern Star Funeral Rites, after which the departed member was laid to rest beside the body of her husband.
